Why I Sing (Root)

Composer: George Root, 1879

At my work I’m always singing

Tho’ the day be cold and long;

Every thought is filled with music

And I can not cease my song.

For I’m thinking of my Savior

And the love that crowns my days;

So He fills my heart with gladness

And my mouth with grateful praise.

I am singing of the sunshine

Tho’ the sky be cold and gray;

I am singing of the summer

Tho’ the winter chills the day.

I’ve a hope ’mid scenes that perish

And my faith

on joyful wings

O’er the clouds of life arises

And in Jesus’ sunlight sings.
