When the Night Shades Are Falling

Composer: Maude Jacobs, 1924

When the night shades gently are falling

And the lights softly glow in the sky

Then I think of the home over yonder

And it seems to be so near by.

O the glory awaiting in the homeland

When our day’s work here is done!

We will be safe home with the Father

And no sorrow shall ever come.

Whatever the task that is given

I will faithfully labor on;

Contented if

when it is finished

The Father shall say

Well done.

And when my day here is ended

And the twilight of life I’ve won

I will face toward home in the evening

And wait for the lights to come.
