When Wicked Men with Envious Rage

When wick­ed men with en­vi­ous rage

Against Thy right­eous cause arise

Great God

do Thou their wrath as­suage

Avert the ev­ils they de­vise.

If for some wise and gra­cious end

Our foes are suf­fered to pr­evail;

Mercy

oh Lord

in judg­ment send

Nor let our strength and cour­age fail.

Sustain us in the gloomy hour

And guide us through the thor­ny road;

Exert for us Thy migh­ty power:

Be our pro­tect­or and our God.
