Watch and Pray (Whittle)

lyricist: Daniel Whittle, 1894
Composer: James McGranahan

Watch and pray! when Satan tempts thee

When assailed by foes unseen;

Christ is ever near to shield thee;

In thy conflict look to Him.

Watch and pray

the time is passing

Sin and strife will soon be o’er;

Watch and pray

all glory’s dawning—

Then we’ll praise forevermore.

Watch! for Satan’s hosts surround thee

Gird thine armor on each day;

They are waiting to ensnare thee;

In thy conflict look to Him.

Pray! for thou art weak and helpless

Poor and wretched and undone;

None can face the powers of darkness

Save in strength of Christ alone.
