Trust (Raymond)

lyricist: Egerton Raymond, 1880
Composer: Robert Staples

Father

I can not see the light

The way is dreary;

Around me hang the clouds of night

Shutting all beauty from my sight:

I can not see the path of right—

Father

I’m weary.

I have no one to show the way

None to uphold me

For all

with me have gone astray:

I walk alone from day to day

With no strong

trusting arm to stay

None to enfold me.

Father

help me in Thee to trust

For Thou canst guide me

I know Thy ways

that they are just

Thou know’st I’m but a child of dust;

And when beset by earthly lust

My Father

hide me.

Whene’er to Thee for aid I fly

Oh

be Thou near me!

Look on me with a pitying eye

A refuge be when danger’s nigh

And when o’ercome

to Thee I cry

My Father

hear me.

When ’round me hang the shades of night

Thou’lt not forsake me;

When earth is fading from my sight

Let burst a flood of golden light

From out those gates of glory bright

And thither take me.
