The Near Tomorrow

lyricist: Fanny Crosby, 1885
Composer: John Sweney

O

the changes

constant changes

In our pilgrim life below;

Through the sunshine and the shadow

Ever trusting

we must go;

But our faith beholds the gleaming

And we hail the blessèd ray

Of a near and bright tomorrow

That will never pass away.

O

the near and bright tomorrow:

What a meeting will be ours

When we clasp our hands forever

In a vale of song and flowers.

Here are burdens we must carry

For ourselves and others

too;

But we have the Savior’s promise

That our strength He will renew.

Thro’ the many clouds that gather

We can see the dawning ray

Of a near and bright tomorrow

That will never pass away.

When our pilgrim life is ended

And we view the setting sun

When the labors of the harvest

We have finished one by one

O

the rapture

holy rapture;

O

the shout of glad surprise

In the near and bright tomorrow

When we ope our waking eyes.
