The Last Command

lyricist: Martha Smith, 1879
Composer: Irving Hartshorn

When the Savior had arisen

From the silent grave

Then He to His loved disciples

This commandment gave:

Go ye

therefore

teach the nations

Of the risen Son;

Tell them of the great redemption

Sent to everyone.

Tell them of the night of sorrow

In Gethsemane;

Show to them the weary footprints

Up to Calvary.

Go and tell them how I loved them

Even on the tree

How I thought of them with pity

In death’s agony.

Now to us this message cometh

From the sinner’s friend

With the promise

I am with you

Even to the end.
