The Bright and Morning Star (Dunlavy)

Composer: Lee Dunlavy, 1885

The bright and morning star

Is shedding forth its light

As God’s majestic glory

To guide His children right.

O

may we all receive it

In faith—in joy—in love—

Until it guides us safely

Into the realms above.

It will guide us safely

Tho’ the way be dreary;

It will guide us safely

To eternal life.

It will guide us safely

Into bliss and glory;

It will guide us safely

If we trust its light.

The bright and morning star

Is shining forth for all

Who love to see its beauty

And heed its gracious call.

Come unto Me

says Jesus

And I will give you rest

For I am meek and lowly;

O be forever blest.

The bright and morning star

Illuminates the way

That leads from earth to Heaven;

It never leads astray.

For if we only travel

Where’er its light doth show

The morning star will guide us

Away from every foe.

Of all the stars that shine

There’s none so great as this

Because it shines forever

And gives eternal bliss.

To all who trust its Spirit

It never will grow dim

It is the blessèd Jesus

Who cleanses from all sin.
