Send Us a Savior

Composer: Edmund Lorenz, 1880

Send us a Savior

hear the nations cry;

Why in the darkness must we pine and die?

Is there no helper for the sore oppressed?

Is there no refuge where the weary rest?

Bitter the cry of a race in sin

Groping for light

yet it breaks not in;

Shall they die

while we cry

Send us a Savior

we pray?

Send us a Savior

for our altar fires

Bring not the peace for which the soul aspires;

Cleansed from our sin

from wrath divine set free

This is our need of needs

for this our plea.

Send us a Savior

for our hearts are sore

Broken in spirit

we can bear no more;

Hearts torn with anguish clamor loud for peace;

Is there no strong one who can bring release?
