One Thousand Years

lyricist: Jennie Wilson, 1913
Composer: Lucious Morris

The promise has been given

That our Lord will come again

And earth will bloom with beauty

When with angels He appears;

Then He o’er sin will triumph

And no death

no grief nor pain

Shall be in His dominion

While He reigns one thousand years.

One thousand years of gladness

One thousand years of peace

Shall come when Jesus reigns on earth

And bids all strife to cease;

One thousand years of blessing

One thousand years of love

Will make this world resplendent

With glory from above.

Then Satan shall be bound with chains

And in the pit be thrown

Where

held a captive he no more

The nations can deceive;

While those who have been true to Christ

And suffering for Him known

The resurrection call shall hear

And all their graves shall leave.

Oh! blessèd are the faithful

Who shall then be first to rise

For over them the second death

No power can obtain;

Their Savior’s face they shall behold

With glad

adoring eyes

And sharing in His kingdom

they

One thousand years shall reign.
