a slave

in pain

by sin tormented;

Sin once held me captive

bound me

reigned as lord o’er me;

Struggling vainly to escape

sad groans and sighs I vented

Unaware that Jesus had set me free.

How deep the grace that reached me!

From sin’s tyranny I’m freed!

I’m drinking living water

Salvation’s bounteous feast;

Praise God! What riches! Oh

what sweetness!

what joy and praises spring!
