My Old Bible

lyricist: Anonymous, 1925
Composer: Fannie Jay

Tho’ some leaves have a tear

And the cover shows wear

Yet my Bible is precious to me;

For it tells how in love Jesus came from above

That from sin I might ever be free.

My old Bible tells me what is right

My old Bible cheers me day and night

My old Bible is a shining ray

For it guides me all along life’s way.

For this Book is a guide

whatsoever betide

For it brightens and lightens my way;

The old story so true

always seems to be new

As I read in my Bible each day.

Then I will not despair

tho’ I have grief and care

For I know that each promise is mine;

This old Book

like a friend

will be true to the end

For I know that God’s Book is divine.
