If Jesus Were Coming Tomorrow

Would we pa­tient­ly carry the bur­dens of life

More trust­ful­ly bear its sor­row

If but a day long­er would end earth­ly strife

If Je­sus were com­ing to­mor­row?

Coming in glo­ry to earth again

Coming in ma­jes­ty He shall reign;

Blessèd de­liv­er­ance His peo­ple ob­tain

When Je­sus shall come—some to­mor­row.

Would we cheer­ful­ly work in the Mas­ter’s good cause

More faith­ful­ly tell the sto­ry

Upholding the ban­ner of Christ and His cross

If Je­sus were com­ing to­morrow?

Would we turn from the tri­fles that lure us aside

Our guide­book more close­ly fol­low

And seek for the bless­ing that’s nev­er de­nied

If Je­sus were com­ing to­mor­row?

Let us dai­ly press on­ward with cour­age and cheer

And hope from His pro­mise bor­row;

Be watch­ing

and wait­ing for Him to ap­pear

Today

or it may be to­mor­row.
