He Is Risen from the Dead

Incipit

He is risen from the dead

Hence depart all sadness!

Christ is risen! this we sing…

In our Easter gladness!

He is risen! we who watched

Thro’ the night of sorrow

Waiting for the Lord’s return

On the glorious morrow!

Listen now with great delight

To the wondrous story;

Welcome with exceeding joy

Christ

the Lord of glory!

He is risen! in His might

King of kings excelling;

All creation lifts her voice

These glad tidings telling:

He who lay within the grave

And to hell descended

Conquers death

and hath today

Hell’s dominion ended.

In our midst our master stands

Lifts His hands in blessing;

Here by faith His feet we clasp

Him as God confessing:

Then the prints of love behold

Hands and feet once wounded

Head once crowned with thorns

with light

Evermore surrounded.

Fear not

ye who seek the Lord!

Jesus in His beauty

Waits to welcome all who tread

Paths of loving duty.

Jesu

keep us ever safe

Under Thy protection

Till we see Thee face to face

In the Resurrection.
