Hark! what sounds are sweet­ly steal­ing

Soft through Beth­lehem’s mid­night air?

Louder yet

and loud­er peal­ing

Angel ac­cents sure are there.

peace and mer­cy

Peace on earth

good will to men.

See! a light from Heav­en is stream­ing

Night and dark­ness quit the plain;

See! an an­gel bright­ly beam­ing

Followed by a ra­di­ant train.

Fear not

shep­herds! glad my sto­ry

Tidings of the great­est joy:

Christ is born

the Lord of Glo­ry!

I pro­claim a Sav­ior nigh.

Thus the an­gel

then as­cend­ing

Seeks again the realms of light;

Now the chor­us faint­ly end­ing

All is si­lence

all is night.
