Christ Our Leader

lyricist: Robert Gordon, 1894
Composer: Ira Sankey

For Christ our Prince and Savior

For truth and holiness

We wage a constant warfare

And onward boldly press;

We brave the sternest conflict

By conscious strength inspired

Our hearts by fear unshaken

Our souls by courage fired.

The war we wage is bloodless

We fight not to destroy.

The motto on our banner

Is Pardon

Peace

and Joy;

We strive to free the captive

Now held by sin a slave

To cheer the faint and hopeless

And make the trembling brave.

But Christ hath all the honor

’Tis He that makes us strong

The trophies of each conquest

To Him alone belong;

And His shall be the triumph

The glory and renown

And His the praise exulting

And His the victor’s crown.
