Christ Is Risen (Beasley)

lyricist: Thomas Beasley, 1915
Composer: Rufus Grisham

’Twas a dark and gloomy night

When our Lord lay in the grave;

We had hoped that by His might

From our sins we would be saved.

He arose from the dead

And He triumphed o’er the grave;

And He knows all our need

He’s the mighty One to save.

His disciples

O how sad!

All their hopes were blighted now;

Their poor hearts were filled with dread

None could tell just what to do.

Women came at break of day

To behold His lonely grave;

Angels said Be not afraid

He is risen from the dead.

Let us tell it far and near

This sweet story o’er and o’er;

Tell it out so all may hear

That He lives for evermore.
