Be Not Deceived

lyricist: Harriet Fithian, 1905
Composer: Daniel Towner

Be not deceived; each soul shall reap

Its harvest soon or late;

So now thy seed

the field is wide;

The world is thine estate.

Be not deceived

be not deceived

God is not mocked;

For whatsoever a man soweth

Whatsoever a man soweth

That shall he also reap

That shall he also reap.

So evil deeds with careless hand

And one sad day behold

Thy garner filled with blighted hopes

And woes a hundred fold.

So seeds of faith and hope and love

Perchance with falling tears

A harvest home of peace and joy

Will crown the work of years.

God’s law will stand forevermore

The law His love made known—

From out the harvest field of life

We reap as we have sown.
