A Prayer for Eventide

lyricist: Seaborn Vines, 1924
Composer: Charles Gabriel

Deep in the west now the sun is sinking low

And skies in beauty reflect its radiant glow:

What have I done

O Lord

for Thee today?

Have I been faithful to Thee along my way?

Have I been willing my little cross to bear?

Have I been willing my brother’s cross to share?

Have I revealed to those who walk with me

That I am walking hand in hand

O Lord

with Thee?

Forgive me

Father

where I have failed today;

My eyes unveil

Lord

and hear me while I pray;

And if for me the sun shall rise no more

Receive me

Father

to Thyself on yonder shore.

Amen

amen.
